HIKING & MOUNTAIN EXPERIENCES
The alpine mountain world of Mariazell has many charms. The formative mountain peaks in harmony in wide valleys and alpine meadows offer each visitor his personal hiking experience, the leisurely walker as well as the sportive climber. It feels wonderful to reach a summit or to walk through the fascinating Ötschergräben (canayons). The jump into Lake "Erlaufsee" invites you to cool off and finally you can relax in our sauna.
Our TIPS in the region:
Visit of "Holzknechtland" & "Biberwasse"r on the "Bürgeralpe Mariazell": Forestry operations from the past are presented here in several stations. Afterwards, make another round with the forest railway around the mountain and crystal lake - an experience for all visitors, big and small. You can also visit the "Biberwasser" the modern playground for children - numerous attractions e.g. a water play area with rafting regatta, water course with gold sink and beaver domino as well as a giant slide and the climbing system "Adlerhorst" with ropes, hanging ladders and climbing nets in up to 3 meters height.
Up to the "Gemeindealpe" with incomparable panoramic views from the lake "Erlaufsee" to the "Ötscher": Two modern chairlifts take you almost to the 1.626m summit of the "Gemeindealpe" and if you want to also comfortable down to the valley to Mitterbach.
"Ötscher Tormäuer" Nature Park: Walk through the "Ötschergräben" - the Grand Canyon of Austria - to the Lassing falls and return for a hearty snack at "Ötscherhias". The weary hikers are offered the return journey with the train to Mariazell.
FUN at the mountain
Mountain carts (Gemeindealpe Mitterbach)
Pure fun and action promises a ride on the mountain carts. Starting at the middle station, you will curve over the 4.6 km long gravel track into the valley. Repeat offenders desired. There are 145 mountain carts available in five different sizes and 10 adult monster scooters. The vehicles are loaded onto the lift in the valley by our staff and transported back to the middle station. Thus, even on busy days, only small waiting times.
WakeAlps at the Crystal Lake (Bürgeralpe Mariazell)
Europe's highest water ski lift for wakeboarding, water skiing, flying carpet and more is located on the Crystal Lake in the adventure park. WakeAlps is the ideal location for wakeboarders and water skiers. The state-of-the-art facility consists of a 2-mast lift and has a length of 150 meters. The obstacles are a kicker and a rooftop. In addition, you can also try out kneeboards, tires and the "flying carpet", there are also at the Crystal Lake "Walking Waterball" and "Stand up Paddle".
Saddle your mountain bike
BikeAlps - the new downhill trails for professionals and beginners: with the chairlift in St. Sebastian in a few minutes up to the Bürgeralpe and then on the trails of varying difficulty back down. Each of the two trails is about 2 km long and leads down to the valley station of the chairlift in St. Sebastian.
Climbing & Rafting in the Mariazell
"Kletterpark Spielmäuer": The Spielmäuer climbing park is located in Wegscheid, only 14 kilometers away from Mariazell's main square. Here you can make a fascinating climbing experience in the middle of the nature of the beautiful Mariazell! The climbing park Spielmäuer presents itself with three via ferratas (difficulty levels A to D), a climbing garden and a hiking trail, which leads on the one hand to the entrances and on the other hand also past the "Teufelsbrücke" to the summit. Due to the variety of difficulty levels of the ferratas, the facility is also ideal for all climbing courses, from beginners to professional training.
Wild water sports in the Salza: Experience a real outdoor adventure in the cool water: During canyoning, your eyes will not stay dry when the guide guides you through the gorges for around 2.5 to 3 hours. Lots of fun is guaranteed. The tour offers numerous swimming passages, jumping opportunities, slides and via ferrata. Professionists provide unforgettable rafting or canyoning adventures in the Wild Alps.

NOSTALGY EXPERIENCES ON LAND & WATER
The "Mariazeller Museumstramway" is Austria's highest-altitude museum tram. The approx. 3.3 km long route leads from Mariazell directly to lake "Erlaufsee" and was completely rebuilt from 1976 to 2015 using historic materials.
Historic excursion boat on lake Erlaufsee: In 2019, the approx. 100-year-old military boat from the First World War was put into operation as a new excursion ship "Christina" and provides an additional offer for tramway passengers and visitors of lake "Erlaufsee". The travel times are linked to the timetable of the "Museumstramway Mariazell".
