Our tips for excursions around the Mariazell Railway:
The Mariazellerland holiday region is ideal for a relaxing holiday without a car. Many excursion destinations, but also breathtaking hiking areas such as the "Ötscher-Tormäuer" nature park, are easily accessible to the public, and the journey with the famous Mariazeller Railway is an experience in itself.
The region is an ideal starting point for a car-free cycling holiday in Upper Styria. In addition to the popular
Traisental Cycle Path, which leads from St. Pölten or Mariazell through impressive natural and cultural landscapes, the new
Upper Styria Cycle Pilgrimage Route also runs through the region. Both routes are excellently connected to the public transport network and easily accessible by the Mariazell Railway. This allows you to perfectly combine cycling enjoyment, sustainable mobility, and unforgettable nature experiences.
A visit to the "Laubenbachmühle operations center" is particularly worthwhile for all railway enthusiasts: The Laubenbachmühle operations center is the starting point for the "Himmelstreppe". The Himmelstreppe is a modern, environmentally friendly means of transport that takes passengers from Laubenbachmühle through the Dirndl Valley to St. Pölten and past the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park to Mariazell. The panorama cars are the highlight of the Mariazeller Railway with a first class interior, panoramic glazing and breathtaking views. You are out and about on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from May to October as well as in Advent. Delicious breakfast variations, pastries and drinks from the region round off the driving experience. The highlights of the season are the themed trips, such as a Mother's Day brunch or the culinary pleasure train with a dinner on the train.
The Ötscherbär adventure train runs from May to the beginning of November on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, as well as on selected dates during Advent. Delicious breakfast options, pastries, and regional beverages complement the journey. Season highlights include popular themed trips, such as Mother's Day brunches, gourmet excursions, and other culinary experiences along the route. Nostalgia enthusiasts can also look forward to select trips with the historic Mh.6 steam locomotive, which operates on the Mariazell Railway on specific dates.
